Second Chance Companion Dog Program:

The New Leash on Life USA signature Second Chance Companion Dog Program places at-risk shelter dogs into correctional facilities for a 12-week training period which includes obedience training and socialization carried out by prison inmates in order to prepare the dogs for adoption by families. New Leash dogs live in the cell blocks with their inmate trainers 24/7, forging a strong bond between the dogs and their trainers, making them highly desirable for adoption and ensuring long-term success for both humans and canines.

Saving and Reclaiming Lives Program:

Several of the canine participants in our program have gone on to do amazing things, including helping their new owners cope with autism, strokes, and depression. As a result, in January 2014, New Leash on Life USA launched Saving and Reclaiming Lives, an assistance dog-training program to benefit veterans with PTSD and their families. Our program prepares dogs with specialized skills that will allow them to support wounded warriors who experience the range of emotional and psychological impacts of PTSD.
